About This Painting Journal

This is not a portfolio site. It is rather a journal/diary of small paintings inspired by the daily painting revolution, which is pioneered by Duane Keiser. I'm a lapsed painter who has recently returned to the easel. It's difficult for me to put into words how it feels to be painting again after so many years. It's like coming home, I guess that's the best way I can put it.

Returning after so long was not an easy task. I could see that there were still vestiges of what I used to be capable of, but I knew I lost a lot of the skills and confidence I used to have. My first attempts with brush in hand were frightening and frustrating. I was attempting to manage my journey back and build my confidence as an artist and

painter through the daily painting practice. The daily painting practice demands a great deal of personal commitment. The “Getting Started” section of this site filled me with a deep sense of disquiet, which did not help my confidence. However, each painting I created in the “Getting Started” section was one small step forward in my attempt to regain a sense of confidence and quiet the racing thoughts of insecurity.

After creating 30 paintings in the “Getting Started” section, I knew it was time to make a very serious commitment in continuing the process. In my examination of the paintings, I saw marked improvement in my approach to observational painting.

My goal is to create eight to ten paintings a month. I’m doing this because I think it’s the best way to regain the skills I used to have and then take them further in as short a time as possible.
